Diff Checker
Loading tool…
A diff shows what changed between two pieces of text: lines added, lines removed, and lines that stayed. Paste the original and the modified text to review a config, a generated file, or a paragraph. This is not git history and it does not merge conflicts for you.
How to use the Diff Checker
- Paste the before text. Use the exact original, including trailing spaces if they matter. Formatting differences show up as changes.
- Paste the after text. Put the new version in the other editor. Order matters: the first side is the baseline.
- Read the highlighted lines. Added and removed lines are marked. For a huge file, narrow the paste to the section you actually changed.
When it helps
- Config drift. Compare a production JSON document with the version in the repo after both have been pretty-printed.
- Copy edits. See which sentences changed in a policy or a README before you approve it.
Common questions
Why is every line marked as changed?
Line endings or indentation differ. Normalize both sides with the JSON formatter or convert tabs to spaces, then diff again.
Can it diff Word documents or PDFs?
Only the text you paste. It does not open binary files.
Does it understand programming languages?
It compares text lines. It does not know that a renamed variable is the same meaning.
Are the two texts uploaded?
No. The comparison runs in the browser.
