YAML to JSON Transformer
Loading tool…
YAML is comfortable to write and awkward to query. Convert a manifest or config to JSON so you can run jq, diff it, or send it to an API that only accepts JSON. Custom tags and anything that is not plain data may not survive.
How to use the YAML to JSON Transformer
- Paste one YAML document. Indentation is significant. Tabs often break YAML; use spaces.
- Convert. Maps become objects and lists become arrays. If parsing fails, the message is the fastest way to find the bad indent.
- Query or pretty-print. Copy the JSON into the formatter or into jq. Round-trip through JSON to YAML if you need to edit it again as YAML.
When it helps
- Local Kubernetes manifests. Turn a deployment file into JSON and list container images without a cluster.
- CI config in an API call. Some automation APIs want JSON. Write the workflow as YAML, convert, then POST the JSON.
Common questions
Why did a version like 1.20 become a number?
YAML may read an unquoted value as a number or boolean. Quote it in the YAML if it must stay a string.
Can I convert several documents separated by ---?
Convert one document at a time. Split on the document marker first.
Are anchors expanded?
Plain anchors in normal documents are resolved by the parser when it can. Exotic tags are not a goal of this tool.
Is the file uploaded?
No. Parsing stays in the browser.
